Forbes’ list of U.S. hardest-drinking cities

Forbes magazine recently released its 2008 list of hardest-drinking cities in the United States.  Atop the list is Austin, a party town due to the presence of the University of Texas main campus.  The manager of the Dog and Duck Pub on Sixth Street described the street as a miniature Bourbon Street.

Number two was Milwaukee, home of the recently-reborn Schlitz beer and popular value beer Pabst Blue Ribbon.  San Francisco, Providence, Rhode Island, and Chicago rounded out the top five.  Another brewing town, St. Louis, home of Bud and Bud Light (well, sort of, now), cracked the Top 10.  Click the link to the article to read the full list.

I’m a little disappointed that Memphis did not make the top 15.  Perhaps Forbes’ editors were unaware that Memphis is the home of the Mid-South Alcoholic Supply World Headquarters.  Oh well, there’s always next year.

I have doubts as to the accuracy of that survey. New Orleans did not even make the top 15. The city that has the drive through Daiquiri joints got beat by cities that the bars close at 11:00.
