Drunkorexia

Drunkorexia is the habit of not eating before drinking alcohol.  This is commonly done on college campuses, for two main reasons.  First of all, students fear the “freshman 15,” the additional pounds put on by all the calories in the alcohol they consume.  They reason that by not eating, they’re saving some extra calories that can then be spent on alcohol.  The problem with this is that students do not get a nutritionally-balanced diet by doing this.

The second reason students don’t eat before saving alcohol is to get a buzz faster.  With no food in their stomach, the alcohol gets absorbed right away.  Not only do they get drunk more quickly, but they save money by not having to drink as much alcohol to get wasted.  More info on drunkorexia here.

Be sure to maintain a balanced diet as you drink.  There are several books in our bookstore that can teach you how to drink on a diet.
