Great beer travel blog - TheBeerGeek.com

Thursday, February 5th, 2009

I found a good beer travel blog this week that I wanted to share with you - TheBeerGeek.com, which is all about seeing the world, one pint at a time.  They visit pubs, breweries, microbreweries, and beer pubs, and their objective is not to tell you which places to visit or which beers to drink, but to instill a sense of adventure in you so that you’ll go out and have interesting beer explorations of your own.

They recently added BeerGeekTV, where you can take part in their beer adventures via streaming video.  In 2008 they embarked upon The Year in Beer, where they traveled to a different beer festival or destination every month.

If you love beer and you love to travel, TheBeerGeek deserves a spot on your Favorites list.

Good blog: The Best of American Beer & Food

Monday, January 19th, 2009

Following up on yesterday’s recipe roundup, I found a good blog that’s worth bookmarking… The Best of American Beer & Food: Pairing and Cooking with Craft Beer by Lucy Sanders.  Looks like her blog isn’t updated terribly often, but when she does post, it’s good stuff.  Recent posts offer recipes for barley wine marshmallows, Wisconsin Farmstead Gruyere fritters, and fudge stout brownies.  As the title suggests, she also has a lot of good thoughts on pairing craft beer with food.  If you’re a foodie and you also appreciate beer, this blog is worth a bookmark.

College logo booze products

Saturday, January 17th, 2009

These aren’t exactly booze-related sites, but our new family of websites under the College Logo Shopping umbrella may be of interest to some readers of this blog.  There you’ll find 72 websites, one for each major BCS university, as well as sites for some of the larger mid-major schools such as Memphis, East Carolina, and Central Florida, as well as noteworthy independent Notre Dame.  Each site wraps up all items carried by Amazon into a convenient, easy-to-shop storefront, and when you’re ready to check out you’re passed through to Amazon, where your order is handled by their world-class secure checkout and shipping process.

The sites contain plenty of booze-related items, including shot glasses, bottle holders, bottle openers, and more, so if you love a particular university and you love booze, check them out.

Good wine blog: Dr. Booze salutes Dr. Vino

Monday, December 29th, 2008

I came across an article a couple of days ago listing the best box wines of 2008, and thought that would be a useful topic to post about.  However, upon further examination, I discovered that the article was part of a very good blog about wine, written by a guy who calls himself “Dr. Vino.”  Nice name!

Dr. Vino is a real Ph.D. who teaches wine classes at NYU and the University of Chicago.  He’s written two books about wine and has wine maps for major cities on his site.  Besides the look at box wines, other recent posts include whether screwcaps diminish a wine’s value, an interview with a wine collector, and a recommendation for a good port.  If you’re into wine, this is a blog you will want to bookmark.

Wine 2.0 - social networking for wine lovers

Monday, December 15th, 2008

If you love wine and you’re into social networking, check out the Wine 2.0 website.  There you register as a member and add fellow wine lovers to your friends list, similar to MySpace and Facebook.  There are also blogs about wine, event listings, photos and videos, and a forum where members can discuss all things wine.  Members can also create and join groups about wine-related topics.  Definitely worth checking out if you want to meet and interact with other people who are into wine.

Another great resource if you like wine is Mid-South Alcoholic Supply’s bookstore, which is full of books and courses on wine.

SpanishVines.com: Guide to Spanish wine, culture, history, and travel

Friday, October 24th, 2008

A new website called SpanishVines.com came online last week, designed to be a guide to Spanish wine, culture, history, and travel.  The site has a “Wine 101″ page that introduces you to Spanish wines, as well as a “products” page that recommends wines.  The travel guide, which is constantly changing, is a good place to start for everyone planning a trip to Spain.  You can also learn about Spanish history, and there are “news & notes” pages, and a blog.

Be sure to enjoy your favorite Spanish wine in one of our many wine glasses.

Good wine review blog: Benito’s wine reviews

Saturday, October 18th, 2008

Yesterday I learned of a good wine review blog, and wanted to pass along the information.  Benito’s Wine Reviews is updated Monday, Wednesday, and Friday.  In addition to reviews of wine, he also discusses cocktails and mixed drinks, and pairings of wine with food.  On his sidebar, he has links to other food and wine blogs in Memphis, home of the Mid-South Alcoholic Supply World Headquarters.  He also has food and wine links for Cleveland and nationally.  Good one to bookmark, and a good jumping-off point to find other wine blogs of interest.

If you buy some of his wine recommendations and need a place to store them, don’t forget that Mid-South Alcoholic Supply sells wine refrigerators.

Monday, October 13th, 2008

If you’re a member of the WineSpectator.com site and you carry a cell phone/PDA, you’ll be pleased to learn that you have some new options available to you on your phone.  Specifically, you’ll be able to

  • View vintage charts to determine best years for wines grown in particular regions
  • Access your wine shopping list, as well as your list of what you currently have in your cellar, from the Wine Spectator site

Now you can access your most relevant Wine Spectator data as you’re in the store shopping.  The new mobile platform is available at mobile.winespectator.com.

Another good site to bookmark if you’re a wine lover:  Mid-South Alcoholic Supply, which sells wine refrigerators, wine buckets, wine openers, wine bottle stoppers and pourers, wine racks, wine cabinets, and wine glasses.

Couple of good beer magazine websites to bookmark

Thursday, August 14th, 2008

The beer bar down the street from the Mid-South Alcoholic Supply World HQ has had a couple of good beer magazines out for its patrons to read this past week. I noticed that both of the magazines have websites, and the sites are full of good content. Here are the links. These are worth bookmarking if you’re into beer.

Find a wine tasting near you

Wednesday, July 23rd, 2008

Here’s another great site I found while web surfing: Local Wine Events

Not only does it have listings by city for wine tastings and dinners, but food, beer, and spirits events as well. You can sign up for their automated newsletter to be kept informed about future local events. If you own a restaurant or bar and you’re throwing an event, you can add it to the listings yourself.

Just for kicks, since the Mid-South Alcoholic Supply World Headquarters is located in Memphis, Tennessee, I decided to surf to the Memphis page and see if anything was listed. Sure enough, I found a Tuesdays on the Terrace wine tasting I didn’t know about. I know of several other upcoming beer and wine events in the area… will get with my contacts and make sure those events get posted.

Throwing a tasting or dinner? Get your wine cellarrs, openers, buckets, and glasses at Mid-South Alcoholic Supply, where you can buy everything you need for a successful tasting except the wine itself.
